Sustainability
We craft delightfully nostalgic and sustainable candles, home fragrances and personal care goods with environmentally friendly business practices in mind. Read more about these practices below and on our About Us page.
Here's what we mean:
- We don't use palm or beeswax in our products.
- We use only domestically produced soy wax in our soy wax candles and melts, supporting US Agriculture and our economy
- We avoid using single use plastics in our handmade goods and packaging.
- We purchase supplies that are sustainably harvested, like our rattan reeds and cork lids and stoppers.
- We buy in bulk to reduce the number of shipments made for our goods and supplies.
- We preferentially work with vendors who have a clear Sustainability Statement posted online
- We preferentially work with vendors who support and promote Diversity & Inclusion initiatives
- We preferentially work with vendors who are Carbon Neutral
- We seek out supplies that incorporate recycled materials.
Our Spanish glass candle jars are made from 100% recycled glass, our clear glass jars are made with at least 50% recycled glass, and our reed diffuser and room spray bottles are at least 30% recycled glass. We preferentially select packaging and shipping supplies made with recycled content and that can also be readily recycled in most curbside recycling programs, like our tissue paper, honeycomb paper, product boxes, and shipping boxes.
- We save by-products of our handcrafting to give them a second life.
Several times a year, we combine our leftover wax, wick cuttings, and used paper towels to repurpose them into wax fire starters. These are offered for sale for use in outdoor fire pits.
- We have a vessel return program to return usable candle jars in exchange for a discount on a future candle purchase.
- When shipping our handmade goods, we preferentially look for ground shipping options over air to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. Similarly, when ordering supplies, we look for ground shipping options.
- Each year, we purchase carbon dioxide offset credits to reduce the impact of greenhouse emissions associated with obtaining raw materials and supplies, making, and shipping our handmade goods. Since opening for business in 2022, we have purchased 8 tonnes of CO2 emission offsets, with our funds dedicated to projects that focus on reforestation and avoiding deforestation. Visit Carbonfund.org for more information about carbon offsets.
