Scent Inspiration: Morningstar

Scent Inspiration: Morningstar

Did you ever hear the adage, “Red sky at night, sailors delight; Red sky at morning, sailors warning”? I learned to repeat this saying at an early age because my Dad and a friend owned a 29-ft sailboat they named “Morningstar”. It had a teakwood interior and the hull was painted a baby blue below the waterline.  I don’t really recall much except for the stories I’ve heard repeated to me over the years, but the photos from that time are fun to look over.  My parents were so young, my sister was little more than a toddler, and my two youngest sisters were not yet born. There is a sweet photo of me and my sister wearing our orange lifejackets while sitting in the cockpit, Dad at the helm.

Later, Dad started sailing as part of the j-crew on another boat, competing in races held on the weekend out of Sandusky Bay in Lake Erie during the summer.  Mom would take me and my sisters to Cedar Point during the day while Dad raced, and at night we would sleep on the boat.  I loved the gentle swaying motion of the boat as I fell asleep in the narrow bunks that lined the teakwood galley. When there were no races, we would sail to Put-in-Bay, Kelley’s Island, and sometimes into Canada. Sometimes I was allowed to stand at the helm and steer the boat.  I felt so important! It was good to be a kid in the seventies and eighties.

Morningstar is a fragrance that evokes a take of Caribbean adventures with notes of Allspice, Teakwood and Rum. Available in candleswax melts, and solid perfumes.
